In 1999 label founders Stefan Betke and Barbara Preisinger created ~scape: a fertile breeding ground for self-contained, self-confident music. With a healthy mix of spontaneous enthusiasm, precision and continuity ~scape endeavours to offer its artists more natural scope for exciting projects and creative excursions. Drawing on their collective experiences as DJs, musician, remixer, mastering engineer, producer, promoter, studio owner and publisher they handpick their artists, bypassing clones of their current label sound in favour of those who create consistent, distinctive and, of course, simply great music.
From dub to jazzy electronica to hip-hop and beyond � since its inception ~scape has remained on the move while staying true to its roots during the founders� eagle-eyed, loving search for those special talents. But now the scope for thought and experiment, styles and ideas implied by the swung dash has finally breached the framework of what ~scape originally set out to do.
To provide projects outside of this realm with a new home ~scape has decided to fill the blank in front of its label name: DVD-scape explores the exciting grey area where music and visuals form new, (un)holy alliances to outgrow the sum of their parts while Pop-scape aims to revive the term�s original meaning � Pop in the true sense of popular music, unafraid of harmonies, vocals or generic band structures.
On this note, ~scape without the prefix remains the label�s central platform, continuing its quest for those rare, unique, fleeting moments between a wide range of musical markers.
