Mistophone's premier release 'Next Stop Antarctica' by The Green Mist is our very exciting news! Released in October 2007, this brilliant LP has all the qualities of Australian rock'n'roll at its finest. The Mist boasts members of renowned bands including THE BEASTS OF BOURBON but it's the mix of instrumentation, vocals, and great song writing coupled with the distinctive acoustic rhythms of Milwaukee legends THE VIOLENT FEMMES that makes this a unique Australian release.
THE CHAPEL OF EASE, scheduled for release Febuary 08, is a more stripped-back affair. This recording group features three members of The Green Mist. TRACY REDHEAD, CHARLIE OWEN and JULIEN POULSON wrote and recorded all the songs over a period of four days, while shacked-up in a century-old chapel (The Chapel of Ease) tucked away in the upper Derwent valley region of Tasmania. The Chapel of Ease recording session has been described quite simply as "achingly beautiful." Again, this is both a collection of songs and instrumentals where highlights are Ms Redhead's compelling vocal qualities and emotional directness. The combination of Poulson's shimmering electric and acoustic guitars with Owen's, multi-instrument, melodic brilliance (Charlies uses a range of instruments from dobro to banjo to jaw harp to harmonium) has shaped an album with its own, inbuilt magic - beautiful dirt music recorded without pretension or fuss.
'Dirt Weed' is the second album for The Green Mist. Produced by LINDSAY GRAVINA (BIRDLAND STUDIOS) this time round The Green Mist kicks in like an angry camel. With a set of songs inspired by the desert this album again sounds like great Australian rock merged with World Music instrumentation and peppered with Leone Western sentiment, Dirt Weed rips speakers as it hits it stormy heights... but this is all we gonna tell you right now.
The Green Mist's Dirt Weed is due for release mid 2008...
