Between 1990 and 1995, XL Recordings issued a series of compilations (‘Chapters’) featuring the underground club hits of the day - the 12 inchers often specially re-mixed for these albums. In total, there were Five UK Chapters, one USA Chapter and even a Video Chapter.
‘The First Chapters’ compiles some of the best, directly signed XL hits and, for the first time, features all the singles from veteran Essex DJ’s - of both raves and pirate radio – SL2, together on one album. Hits from The Prodigy (just breaking from the underground with “Charley”), Kicks Like A Mule, Liquid and Awesome 3 are also included.
While these dance albums traditionally featured basic packaging, this re-issue celebrates the quality of XL Recordings with a special 12” vinyl replica, gatefold XL pack, and includes 8 collectors cards for the bands.
This is an almost perfect document of a late night world of raves, pirate radio, techno, ragga, dancefloor fillers, jungle, hardcore and hip hop roots.
