MICAH P. HINSON AND THE RED EMPIRE ORCHESTRA scores
UNCUT's AMERICANA ALBUM OF THE MONTH
"Against such rich, variegated moods, this could well be his best yet."

In 2004, the ‘Micah P. Hinson and the Gospel of Progress' debut collected a wealth of critical acclaim, w' NME describing it as "an astonishing debut album of country noir". After sold out tours in w' THE EARLIES, IRON AND WINE + his own headline tour, it was voted into numerous end of year best of polls incl. No.5 in UNCUT & ROUGH TRADE SHOP's 100 best albums of the year!

Now, MICAH P HINSON has known trouble! Raised in Abilene, Texas, he's lived through teenage drug addiction, forays into crime, a stint in jail, bankruptcy & homelessness. Yet in spite of all this personal turmoil, he'd managed write two albums of sparse yet beautiful country songs with lush strings, beautiful keyboards & eerie backdrops harmonised perfectly with Micah's honest & exposed vocal style, which has earned him critical acclaim and an international cult following.

With ‘Micah P. Hinson and The Red Empire Orchestra' - his latest & greatest collection of stunning alt. country delivered with his inexplicably timeworn burr - is the record that almost wasn't. Suffering chronic back pain, Micah had retreated back to Texas where he was beginning to contemplate a life after music. Yet upon receiving an expression of interest from producer / engineer JOHN CONGLETON (THE POLYPHONIC SPREE, EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY, BLACK MOUNTAIN, ANTONY AND THE JOHNSONS), Micah's fortunes were rekindled.

In 2008, with confidence restored & a life back on track, Micah P. Hinson shows on ‘...And The Red Empire Orchestra' that he's ready to take his art back to the masses & will overcome any obstacle set in his path: "I find myself ready to take on the world again, and show them what I have up my sleeve".

Recorded in a studio converted from an old funeral home, ‘...And The Red Empire Orchestra' was pulled together w' the help of a host of musicians, including members of The Polyphonic Spree, The Paper Chase & The Drams as well as veteran of the opera circuit, Nick Phelps.

Perfect for fans of BON IVER, BAND OF HORSES, M WARD or FLEET FOXES
