Jamie Cullum was obsessed with all types of music from an early age - rock, hip-hop, folk, dance, acid jazz, blues. He discovered straight ahead jazz as a teenager, through artists like HERBIE HANCOCK, CHARLES MINGUS & MILES DAVIS, but also showed an interest in the groundbreaking STEELY DAN albums via his brother Ben, who now co-writes much of Jamie’s original material.
With over 2.5 million albums sold & over 100 festival, stadium & concert hall gigs a year for the last three, Jamie Cullum is undoubtedly a jazz phenomenon. Regularly covering a huge selection of artists/genres in his live show, he jumped at the chance to express his influences in the 2nd “In The Mind Of” album.
Jamie continues to redefine where the parameters of pop & jazz. “People ask why I play jazz. It’s because you can take it to so many different places. You can embrace dance music, rock, pop music, classical, funk, everything… & I touch on all those things in this record. This CD feels like a fantasy resumé,” says Cullum, “or a mix tape I would make for a great friend or a really hot girl.”
