The Third Hand (inst. Version)
Xl Recordings
HIP HOP
Following in tradition of many of other releases he has produced with vocals, RJD2’s latest solo opus, ‘The Third Hand’, gets the instrumental treatment.
What can’t be denied is the fact that the beats on the album were ‘dope’, as usual. This is the chassis on which that pop album was built The Third Hand (Instrumental Version).
Catapulted to notoriety, fame, and uber-serious hip-hop credibility with 2002’s ‘Dead Ringer LP’, 30-year-old Philadelphia resident and multi-instrumentalist RJD2 has enjoyed a thoroughly prolific career.
For his most recent album The Third Hand, RJD2 seemingly abandoned all the notions and titles that have been placed upon him. The underground hip-hop super-producer to many, virtuoso sample-based instrumental wizard recorded, performed, arranged and produced a cohesive pop album, a sound more akin to the pantheon of enigmatic songwriter/producers (see Jon Brion, Brian Wilson, Stevie Wonder) .
ALTERNATIVE PRESS “That’s why artists like RJD2 are important: They’re brave, they’re risk takers, and modern music needs more of them.” ... ALL MUSIC GUIDE “Two skills he has mastered in the past, mood and texture, make this record especially good.”
