CALIFONE are back with their finest album to date, a masterful statement that denies the existence of genres, and balances melody with experimentation in absolute harmony.
CALIFONE's earliest roots lie in the band RED RED MEAT who were an influential and experimental blues group signed to the infamous SUB POP label. They began their journey as Califone in 1998 with a self-titled EP, followed later by the full-length debut, 'Roomsound', in 2001 and eventually the band's THRILL JOCKEY debut, 'Quicksand/Cradlesnakes' in 2003.
Having little time to take into consideration the impact of the music they were creating Califone continued to keep busy performing and writing music. In three years, they recorded four albums (two instrumental, two song-based including 'Heron King Blues') and toured heavily with WILCO, MODEST MOUSE, THE SEA AND CAKE as well as performing at ALL TOMORROWS PARTIES curated by SONIC YOUTH.
Recorded at various studios across America, including 4DEUCES STUDIO in Chicago with indie legend and ex Red Red Meat member BRIAN DECK who has also worked with Modest Mouse and IRON AND WINE. MICHAEL KRASSNER (EDITH FROST, WILL OLDHAM) also manned the controls in Long Beach and Phoenix, before the band laid the finishing touches at their home in Los Angeles.?
The Australian/NZ edition includes a bonus track, the previously unreleased "Ladders", recorded at the album sessions.
