On 'Gold Sounds', four of New York City's finest contemporary jazz
musicians assemble for an inspired tribute to one of the last decade's most
influential alternative acts, PAVEMENT! It's a collaboration unlike anything
you will hear for some time!
Coming about as the result of a "what if...?" conversation,
the players on this album were specially enlisted and are amongst the finest
heavyweight jazz musicians in the world today. > The quartet features:
JAMES CARTER on saxophone, who has earnt a heavyweight title with an abundance
of 4 and 5 star records. Carter has also starred in ROBERT ALTMAN's film
'Kansas City'.
CYRUS CHESTNUT on keyboards has paralleled Carter as the premier player
of his instrument. Chestnut rose from the Gospel / Soul circuit and has played
with ANITA BAKER and BETTY CARTER.
REGINALD VEAL on bass is perhaps best known as WYNTON MARSALIS' bassist
of choice. Most recently Veal has been touring with CASSANDRA WILSON.
ALI MUHAMMED JACKSON on drums, the young buck of the ensemble, who has
been making a name for himself in Paris with his incredible chops.
But you need not be jazz aficionado or even a Pavement fan to appreciate
this record and the incredible work that went into its arranging and recording.
Equal parts jazz, rock, funk and gospel, 'Gold Sounds' will appeal to anyone
whose expectations for music are higher than a hummable melody or cute lyric.
